The University of Chicago Urology is a premier urology teaching program in urologic reconstruction and prosthetics urology located in the south side of Chicago, led by internationally renowned board-certified urologists including Omer Raheem MD, FACS, an Associate Professor of Urology and an active member of the Society of Urologic Prosthetics Surgeons (SUPS). This Post Graduate Educational Urology Program includes ACGME-AUA accredited Urology Residency, Genitourinary Reconstructive and Prosthetics Fellowship, Visiting Research Scholarship, and other training programs for a total of 15 urology residents, 2 fellows, 6 Advanced Practice Providers and nurses.
In this state-of-the-art tertiary urology practice, our team provides the most advanced and complex urologic procedures in the field of reconstructive and prosthetics urology, mens health and sexual medicine including approximately 120 Penile Implants, 25 Artificial Urinary Sphincters, 20 Male Slings, 40 Peyronie Reconstruction, 20 Gender Affirming Surgeries per year. As director of the Men’s Wellness and Genitourinary Cancer Survivorship Clinics, Dr Raheem provides his expertise to a wide variety of men’s related issues and cancer survivors at the UChicago Comprehensive Cancer Center by improving quality of erectile, urinary, and reproductive health.
Dr. Raheem’s research published in over 150 peer-reviewed journals and nine book chapters. He is currently an Associate Editor of Sexual Medicine, Sexual Medicine Reviews and Video Journal of Prosthetics Urology (VJPU), the official journals of the Sexual Medicine Society of North America (SMSNA), Journal of Urology Online Content Editor and Associate Editor of the newly released Journal of Urology Open Plus (JUOP), the official journals of the American Urologic Association (AUA) and Associate Editor of Andrology, the official journal of the Asian Society of Andrology (ASA). He is currently the chair of the International Society of Sexual Medicine (ISSM) webinar series and chair of the SMSNA international liaison committee.
Recently, Dr Raheem was cordially invited as a speaker in numerous national and international urology meetings including the AUA annual meeting held in Chicago, Illinois, April 28th to May 1st 2023, XVII Paulista Congress of Urology – Society of Brazilian Urology (SPU) held in Sao Paulo, Brazil, September 3rd to 6th 2022 as part of American Urologic Association (AUA) – Society of Brazilian Urology (SPU) International Scholarship Exchange Program.
In conjunction of the AUA annual meeting in Chicago April 28th 2023, Dr Raheem and urology faculty, conducted the 1st international Live Surgical Symposium Advanced Genitourinary Reconstruction & Urologic Prosthesis course on April 27th 2023 at the University of Chicago Medical Center for urology residents, fellows, urologists, advanced practice providers and other affiliated urologic healthcare providers through one-day live surgery and didactic course (Int J Impot Res. 2023 Apr 25. doi: 10.1038/s41443-023-00704-6. Online ahead of print). This course was successful, timely and well executed due to several reasons: (1) The AUA and larger urologic community recognized the growing need and strong desire to resume in-person lectures, live surgery workshop especially post COVID pandemic era. (2) Specifically, the field of genitourinary reconstruction including urologic prosthesis has been evolving and developing over the past decade. (3) Dynamic interactive discussion between our international SUPS expert faculty and more than 70 attendees made the course valuable educational experience to all.
Recognizing the increased role of social media and online training, Dr Raheem contributed several high-quality index surgical videos in Penile Implants, Artificial Urinary Sphincters, Male Slings, Peyronie reconstruction, Transgender Prosthesis Reconstruction and Penile Fracture Repair cases recently published online at the Video Journal of Prosthetics Urology (VJPU). Moreover, Dr Raheem created his own YouTube Channel with 41 surgical videos library pertaining to SUPS related cases and conditions with over 30.000 online views.
